Title: Courting Mr. Emerson
Author: Melody Carlson
When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it’s not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause–and finds herself falling for him in the process.Synopsis from Amazon
A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around–which to him seems like all too often. He’s not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them.
But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The question is, will his change of heart be too late for Willow?
With her signature heart and touches of humor, fan favorite Melody Carlson pens a story of two delightfully eccentric characters who get a second chance at life and love.
Christian Romance – If you love Hallmark movies, this book is for you! I felt like I watching one of those movies throughout the entire book!!
This was the first book I’ve read by Carlson and it won’t be the last. Her writing style was incredible, sucking me in from the first page. I always get skeptical reading a new author’s work because I’m afraid I won’t like it! But I loved Carlson’s style.
I read this book under a week. I didn’t read it faster because I was reading 6 different books at the time…don’t ask. But even though this wasn’t a grip the edge of your seat I need to keep reading to find out what happens next kind of book, it kept my attention thoroughly because of how much I feel in love with the characters.
Character / World Building:
When I find a book that has eccentric characters that I wouldn’t normally choose to read about but end up loving, I find myself intrigued. It challenges me to expand my horizons with people. It’s so easy to judge others at first glance, but we never know what someone is dealing with on the inside. So reading this book, I realized that I adored the different characteristics of each character. They caused me frustration, they made me laugh, but most of all they taught me that the most unlikely pairing of people can become good friends.
As I mentioned above, I was gifted this book, but was not required to write a review. However, I couldn’t wait to finish and write a review because I loved it so much. Books that cause me to think long after the story is over become my favorites. This one made me think through multiple layers of what the story told! I highly recommend it, and I can’t wait to read more books by this author! Thank you to Revell Books, Melody Carlson, and JustReadTours for sending me this book!
